Is it safe to hook up 2 800 watt subs to a 2000 watt amp even if rms watt on the amp is higher?

i have 2 800 watt kicker subs witch equals to 1600 watts. is it safe to hook them up to a 2000 watt peak amp even though the rms on the amp might be a little higher? thank u.
